General questions
What is the typical timeline for designing and installing a bespoke kitchen?
The journey from the first sketch to a fully installed bespoke kitchen is as individual as the kitchens we create. On average, the design phase takes 4 to 6 weeks, during which we work closely with you to craft a design that fits your lifestyle and space. Once finalised, the production process generally requires 6 to 8 weeks - each piece is handmade to order, so this time ensures every detail is just right. Installation, depending on the size and complexity, usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. Rest assured, we’ll provide you with a clear timeline and regular updates, so there are no surprises. After all, creating a dream kitchen is not something to be rushed.
Do you work with customers outside Norfolk?
Yes, we do. While we’re proud of our Norfolk roots and the connections we’ve built here, our reputation has brought us projects from further afield. Whether you're based in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, or even beyond, we’re happy to explore how we can make your vision a reality. For projects outside the region, we work carefully to plan logistics and maintain the high standard of service that defines us. Distance should never be a barrier to creating something extraordinary.
What makes Kitchens Etc. different from other kitchen design companies?
The difference lies in the experience we offer. We’re a family-run company, which means every project is personal. Unlike larger firms juggling dozens of commissions, we limit the number of kitchens we design and install each year to ensure every client gets our undivided attention. Our process feels less like a transaction and more like a collaboration. We’re not just delivering kitchens; we’re crafting spaces that become the heart of your home. And because everything we create is truly bespoke, no two kitchens are ever the same.
Can you work with my existing kitchen layout, or do I need a complete remodel?
We can absolutely work with your existing layout if that’s what you prefer - or if it’s the most practical solution. Sometimes a thoughtful refresh can transform a space without the need for a full-scale renovation. That said, we love exploring possibilities. If your layout could be improved for better flow, functionality, or aesthetics, we’ll suggest changes that could make your kitchen work even harder for you. Ultimately, the decision is always yours and we’ll tailor our approach to suit your needs.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
A few simple things can make your first consultation more productive. If you have room dimensions, photographs, or existing plans, bring them along. If you’ve been gathering ideas - whether it’s clippings from magazines or a Pinterest board full of inspiration - that’s helpful too. But don’t worry if you don’t have these things yet. The most important ingredient is your vision. We’ll start with a conversation and guide you through the rest, turning that vision into something tangible.
Are your kitchens handmade and where are they made?
Yes, every kitchen we produce is handmade with care and precision in our Norfolk workshop. This isn’t mass production, it’s craftsmanship. Our skilled team uses the finest materials, combining traditional techniques with modern innovations to ensure every piece is both beautiful and built to last. We also have our Inspired range, proudly made in the UK and our collaboration with renowned kitchen designer Johnny Grey for the Unfitted Kitchen range.
When you invest in one of our kitchens, you’re investing in a product that carries the hallmarks of quality and authenticity.
Do you offer eco-friendly or sustainable kitchen options?
Sustainability is something we care deeply about. From sourcing responsibly managed timber to offering finishes and fittings that minimise environmental impact, we’re committed to creating kitchens that are as kind to the planet as they are stunning to look at. We’re also happy to advise on energy-efficient appliances and lighting, helping you make choices that are both practical and sustainable. A kitchen can be beautiful, functional and mindful of the world it’s built in - and we’re here to show you how.
Design process
How involved can I be in the design process?
As involved as you’d like to be. Some clients prefer to trust us with the details, while others relish diving into every decision. Either way, this is your kitchen and your voice will guide the process. From brainstorming ideas to selecting finishes, we’ll work collaboratively to ensure the final design reflects your tastes and practical needs. Think of it as a partnership - your vision and our expertise combining to create something extraordinary.
Can I see examples of your previous work during the consultation?
Absolutely. During your consultation, we’ll share examples of our previous projects to inspire you and demonstrate the craftsmanship we bring to every design. These aren’t just photographs - they’re stories of how we’ve transformed spaces to suit different lifestyles and preferences. You’ll see the breadth of what we can achieve, from sleek contemporary designs to timeless traditional styles.
Do you provide 3D designs or mockups of the kitchen before production?
Yes, we create detailed designs either hand-drawn or 3D CAD for our different ranges, along with templates/models and samples to bring your ideas to life. This enables you to explore how your kitchen will look and feel within your space, giving you confidence in every design decision before production begins. Adjustments at this stage are easier and ensure we’re all aligned on the final vision.
Can I choose the materials and finishes for my kitchen cabinets and worktops?
Of course. The materials and finishes are a defining feature of any bespoke kitchen and your preferences are central to this choice. Whether you’re drawn to the warmth of oak, the sleekness of quartz, or a specific colour palette, we’ll guide you through a curated selection of options. Together, we’ll ensure every detail reflects your style and complements the overall design. In the words of Charles Eames, 'The details are not the details, they make the design!'.
What happens if I change my mind about a design detail during the process?
It’s normal to refine your ideas as the project evolves. If you change your mind about something, let us know as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate it. While some changes are straightforward, others may impact timelines or costs - particularly if they occur later in the process. Our goal is to keep everything flexible and collaborative, ensuring you’re thrilled with the final result.
Materials and quality
What types of wood and materials do you use in your kitchens?
We use a range of high-quality materials, chosen for their beauty and durability. These include solid hardwood and painted finishes on premium Accoya wood, a non-toxic, sustainable timber renowned as the best choice for specialist joinery. Every material is carefully selected to complement the style and functionality of your kitchen. Additionally, we’re happy to explore alternative materials, including reclaimed wood and other sustainable options, to align with your values and vision.
Are your stone worktops sourced locally?
Whenever possible, yes. We believe in supporting local suppliers and reducing the environmental impact of our materials. Our stone worktops are sourced from trusted providers known for their quality and ethical practices. Whether you choose granite, quartz, or marble, each piece is carefully selected to ensure it meets the highest standards.
Do you offer advice on selecting appliances to fit my kitchen design?
Absolutely. Appliances play a vital role in the functionality of your kitchen and their integration into the design is just as important as their performance. Whether you’re looking for state-of-the-art technology or timeless classics, we’ll guide you through the options and recommend appliances that fit seamlessly into your space while meeting your cooking and lifestyle needs.
How do you ensure the durability and longevity of your kitchens?
Durability starts with the right materials and is reinforced by expert craftsmanship. Every component of your kitchen is built to withstand daily use, combining traditional joinery techniques with modern innovations. We also ensure finishes are hard-wearing and practical, so your kitchen stays as beautiful as the day it was installed for years to come. In short, we design with the future in mind, creating kitchens that aren’t just stunning but built to last - future-proofed in both design and materials. Our outstanding aftercare service and continued relationship with our clients also ensure this.
Customisation
Can I incorporate unique features, like wine racks or hidden storage, into my kitchen design?
Absolutely. We love creating kitchens with unique features that reflect your lifestyle and needs. Whether it’s a custom wine rack, pull-out pantry, or clever hidden compartments, we’ll work with you to design features that enhance your kitchen’s functionality while adding a personal touch.
Do you design kitchens for specific needs, like accessibility or small spaces?
Yes, we’re experienced in designing kitchens for a variety of requirements. Whether you need a layout that accommodates mobility aids or a design that maximises storage in a compact space, we’ll tailor every element to suit your needs. No challenge is too big - or too small - for our team to tackle.
Can you create matching furniture for other rooms in my home?
We can indeed. Many of our clients ask us to extend their kitchen’s style into other areas of the home, whether it’s a utility room, 'boot room, wine room, study or dining space. From bespoke cabinetry to standalone pieces, we can create furniture that complements your kitchen while meeting the specific needs of each room.

We can. Energy efficiency is not only good for the planet but also reduces running costs for your home. We’ll help you choose energy-efficient appliances and incorporate LED or smart lighting solutions into your design. Together, we can create a kitchen that’s as eco-conscious as it is stylish.

Technical details
Can you design and fit kitchens for listed buildings or heritage homes?
Yes, we have experience designing kitchens for listed buildings and heritage homes. These projects often require a sensitive approach to preserving the property's character while creating a functional, modern space. We’ll work closely with you - and, if necessary, local authorities - to achieve the perfect balance.
Do you provide kitchens with integrated technology, like smart appliances?
We can incorporate a wide range of integrated technologies into your kitchen, from smart appliances to built-in charging stations and voice-activated lighting. Modern kitchens are more connected than ever and we’re here to help you embrace those possibilities.
What is the difference between framed and frameless cabinets and which do you offer?
Framed cabinets have a visible face frame around the front of the cabinet, offering a traditional look and additional stability. Frameless cabinets, on the other hand, have no face frame, allowing for a sleeker appearance and more storage space. We offer both options and we’ll help you choose the style that best suits your design… or even a mix of both - the possibilities are endless!
